Psychamerica offers a unique opportunity to articulate who you are and how you came to be.

Here, it is your mind that lies at the heart of what matters, your word that reveals the “inarticulate speech of the heart” (Van Morrison).

Our mission is to provide a truly exceptional space in which you have the rare possibility to take a “detour thru your mind”, as the B52s sang back in 1986, accompanied by an experienced and insightful translator; Paul Kellett van Leer.

A de-tour can be a roundabout route taken in order to avoid an obstacle, like the everyday coping mechanisms we use to avoid issues we have never addressed and perhaps believe we cannot resolve.

Yet a de-tour can also be a route by which something is visited on the way to our destination, fundamentally changing our destiny as a result.

The de-tours offered at Psychamerica encompass both meanings, involving revisiting that which has been avoided in the past, something since forgotten, something that now creates an obstacle in the present.

Revisiting this forgotten past loosens the need for such detouring, so that our destiny becomes less inevitable, leaving us freer to stray from the straight and narrow; as the B52s also sang, ‘to leave my past behind in the past’.

This invitation to wander that Psychamerica extends to you is to become a “soul in wonder” (Van Morrison).
