What can I expect of my consultation?
Your first session offers us the opportunity to listen to what you have to say about that with which you are concerned. We invite you to speak what crosses your mind with as little editing as possible and as much freedom as is tolerable. We will offer several provocative reflections regarding your words such that we can see what you make of interpretation and thereby gain some insight into how you might take up the invitation for ongoing work.
How long does therapy usually take?
Our clients come along to therapy for a wide variety of periods, from a few months to many years, coming several times a week to occasional sessions now and then. Some conclude for a moment and may not feel a need to return, many return after periods of several years to over a decade. Stopping attending sessions may not mark the end of a process which in any case continues in between sessions without the literal presence of your therapist. You are free to punctuate your sessions at any time, and without any requirement of some kind of standardized notice. And you are free to return when ready.
Do you offer in-person and online sessions?
Psychamerica offers in-person sessions in Georgetown, Washington DC and virtual sessions worldwide. While online might seem more convenient, it is not the same as attending in person, so that we tend to supplement in-person sessions with occasional online sessions where necessary.
How do I schedule an appointment?
Appointments can be scheduled by contacting Paul directly through the website’s contact page, phone, or email.
What is your cancellation/rescheduling policy?
Your agreed fee is due at the time of booking and is payable regardless of attendance. Session fees become overdue from 6pm Friday of the week of the session, accruing an additional 10% late fee each week. Should you need to move your session, please let us know as soon as possible and we will offer you any available alternative times within the same working week as the original booking.
How much does therapy cost?
Current average fees stand at $175 for individuals and $250 for couples per session. Nonetheless, Psychamerica considers it unethical to impose standard fees when we all have differing earnings and financial obligations. So, we will agree to a sustainable rate and corresponding length and frequency of sessions in order to accommodate your unique circumstances.
Do you accept insurance?
Psychamerica is an out-of-network provider for all insurance companies. We provide monthly documentation for you to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.
Is what I share in therapy confidential?
Confidentiality is a core principle of therapy and everything you say in your sessions is subject to the highest HIPPA standards. Those based in the US, however, are subject to limits imposed by law and policed by licensing boards. We will discuss these limitations where relevent when we review our working agreement.
What are your office hours?
Sessions are available on weekdays from 8am to 7pm EST.
Since you have no waiting room, are there nearby places to wait before my session?
There are cafes and restaurants nearby on P Street and M Street. Psychamerica does have restroom facilities.
What payment methods do you accept?
Payments can be made by cash or check, Zelle or by credit card.
